Leonardo da Vinci: Encouraging (and Participating in) Dissection
Although he was an artist and not a physician or surgeon, da Vinci dissected many human cadavers and drew what he saw. These were the first accurate drawings of the human body. Artists such as da Vinci encouraged dissections and helped to get rid of the taboo surrounding them.
